The Power of Positivity


Mama always said to be positive. Well, maybe mama didn’t say that exactly, but mama sure did say a lot of things. I know mama told you to believe in yourself. {And now I’m typing in a southern accent and picturing Forrest Gump sitting on a bench spouting off, “Life is like a box of chocolates …”. The things that go through my head … anyways!}

The key to reaching all of your dreams and goals is believing in yourself – believing that you can do it. It sounds too simple and idealistic, doesn’t it? I mean sure, you have to have a game plan and a path to walk on that will actually get you there, but that’s secondary. Why would you even come up with one if you didn’t believe the end result was accomplishable and that you were the one fully able to accomplish it?

We all have dreams. And I know you have big ones. Don’t give up on them.

Let’s say life has pushed you down a few too many times and your faith is running low in your dreams and in yourself. Maybe even by now you’ve given up completely. How can you find yourself at a place where you can believe in you again?

Exterminate the Negativity

First of all, that’s a sign of negativity seeping into your life. Negativity is an illness of the mind. It’s gotta be getting in from somewhere. We need to find it and exterminate it’s existence otherwise it will keep poisoning your life and digging graves for your dreams. It won’t even have the decency to leave you flowers. Your thoughts of negativity have been planted by something else. Examine every aspect of your life and eliminate the cause. Remember what mama said, what you put in is what you’re going to get out. Go back to when you first started to let go. What was going on at that point in your life? Who were you surrounding yourself with? What were you watching on TV? What are you listening to? What were you reading? What were you putting into your body? If the common denominator is still a part of your life you need to seek out a resolution. Remove it. If that’s not possible because let’s say, for example, your spouse is saying things to make you doubt yourself then another measure needs to be taken depending on your circumstances: share how you feel, meet with a guidance counselor, or guard your mind.

You can change the direction of the train if you concentrate.


Immerse Yourself in Positivity

How do you guard your mind? You guard it with the defensive player called positivity! Counteract the negativity with positivity. Surround yourself with people who are going to encourage, uplift, and breathe belief into your life and into you. Listen, watch, read, do things that are going to make you feel good about yourself. There are plenty of motivational speakers and books out there that you can get your hands on. A lot of what you eat can also contribute to how you feel. Simply making small health and lifestyle changes can give you a better outlook on life.

Just remember: even in the bad you can always find something good.


You created world peace. You solved world hunger. You discovered a new species. You won the Nobel Peace Prize. You saved someone’s life. You are the next Oprah. You wrote a book. You graduated from college. You graduated from high school. You aced the test. YOU did it. Those aren’t just words that state an accomplishment. Those are facts. That is truth. Wherever you’re at, I want you to dream like you were a kid again. What do you want more than anything out of life? What is your biggest dream? Close your eyes and describe it to me. Don’t just tell me. I want you to go into the future and live that dream then come back and describe it to me in detail. Who was there? How did it make you feel? What did you see? What did you smell? Taste? Write me a novel so full of depth and detail that you begin to believe it actually happened because it has become so real to you. Read that novel to yourself over and over again. Day after day until that day in the future comes to pass. In the process, you will end up transforming your life to meet the requirements of your dream. You know it’s going to happen because for you it already has. That’s how you can make your dreams come true, but first you have to believe in yourself and be living a life of positivity that will allow believing in yourself to be possible.
