A Budge-Proof Lipstick that Lasts All Day

Say what?! I’ve never heard of such a thing. Every stain and lipstick that claims to be “kiss-proof” or lasts more than 4 hours that I’ve tried has always been a disappointment. Then one day, as I was scrolling through Facebook, I came across this video …

“What magic is this?!” I wondered.

I had to try this to see if it really worked so I started researching it. The product is called LipSense by a company called SeneGence. It’s a direct selling company that has been around since the 90s selling anti-aging skin care and cosmetics, but is just now starting to get a lot of exposure due to their LipSense products.

What is LipSense?

When you first purchase LipSense, you get a LipKit that comes with three products: the color, gloss, and Ooops! remover. The LipSense products are vegan, not tested on animals, non GMO, gluten free, wax free, and lead free. There are over 70 colors and you can layer them to create your own unique color for endless possibilities. The color creates a molecular bond to your lips that is budge-proof, smudge-proof, water-proof, and kiss-proof.

The gloss is able to penetrate the color and be absorbed by your lips for optimal hydration. The gloss has shea butter that will moisturize and lock in the color to keep it looking fresh and help it last for up to 18 hrs. The color and gloss work hand in hand. With the natural ingredients of LipSense, it will break down any wax buildup on your lips from other lipsticks and chapsticks that have caused a wax barrier to form on your lips.

Although that wax barrier will protect your lips from the environment, it also blocks moisture and often times leaves your lips feeling more dry as a result. LipSense will put your lips through an exfoliation process in the beginning that will work to remove the wax layers and build up so you can see optimal results with hydrated lips and long lasting color.

The Ooops! remover helps you to touch up any mistakes if need be as well as remove it if you want it off sooner than later. The longer it is left on the easier it will be to remove with your desired cleanser/makeup remover. Using any other product will break the molecular bond and you will notice the color starting to break down. It is recommended to avoid using any other lip products as it will be counterproductive and prolong the exfoliation process.

Fun Facts:

  • 1 tube of LipSense = 4 tubes of regular lipstick
  • Shelf life is 2 years
  • A tube of LipSense will last 4-6 months when used daily
  • Each color can be layered with one another
  • You can use the tip of the applicator for lip liner

How do you apply LipSense?

Make sure you start off with clean, dry lips. Shake the tube of color and in one stroke from side to side apply the color to your lip. Wait 5-10 seconds for it to dry, apply a second coat, wait for it to dry and a third coat, wait for it to dry. Do not let your lips touch during the color application. Color may flake off if layers are too thick. Avoid streaking by applying in one direction. The first layer touches the skin’s PH and will break down first and fastest. The second layer is protected from the PH by the first layer while the third layer protects the second layer from the environmental factors that will break it down.

When you first apply the color, you may notice a tingle from the cosmetic alcohol evaporating as it touches your lips and leaves the color behind. Once your color is applied, you can touch up with the Ooops! Remover if need be and apply your gloss.

My Experience with LipSense

I told you I was skeptical, right? So I ordered two colors: Plum and Praline Rose. Plum is a deep berry color and Praline Rose is more of a neutral mauve color. Here are the results of testing it out:

Is it budge-proof? Yes. Does the color transfer? Nope.

First picture: 7am right after application of Praline Rose. Middle picture: 10 hours later at 5:00pm after a full day of eating, drinking, licking lips, kissing, breathing, and living life with no touchups since first application – not even a coat of gloss (which is recommended to keep lips feeling hydrated). Last picture: 5:00pm minutes later with a coat of gloss.

First picture: 7am right after application of Plum.

A different day, again wearing Plum. Application was at 7am, first photo taken at 8:30am and second photo taken at 10:30pm 15 1/2 hrs later with no touchups – not even gloss – after a full day of again living life including working out and showering with it on.

Is it long lasting? Yes! Now, let’s be real and honest for a moment here. It does not look picture perfect like the initial application at the end of the day. Don’t expect that. Color and longevity will depend on the PH balance of your skin and application. If you’re treating your lips rough by biting and picking at them, it’s not going to last as long. If you’re using a different brand gloss, it’s not going to last as long and if you’re using other wax lip products the exfoliating process will take much, much longer and your color will not last as long.Oils and grease will break it down quicker and not applying gloss throughout the day will make your lips look and feel more dry.

How much is LipSense?

It’s $55 for a LipKit that includes your color, gloss, and remover. For a first time buyer, this is what is recommended, however once you purchase your initial LipKit you can purchase colors individually for $25, different gloss finishes (including matte!) individually for $20, and Ooops! Removers individually for $10.

Yes, $55 can be a lot for someone, but not only is it worth the cost for the quality of the product and what is has to offer, but keep in mind these fun facts:

  • 1 tube of LipSense = 4 tubes of regular lipstick
  • Shelf life is 2 years
  • A tube of LipSense will last 4-6 months when used daily

Bottom Line

Does this product work and do what it claims to? Yes. It is the best lip product out on the market, I would say, for its longevity, color options, and customization. I’m a huge advocate for it being natural and following good, ethical practices in its production as well. Looking at the comparison of quantity for cost as compared to other popular cosmetic brands, you’ll find that you are actually getting more for your money with LipSense.

How and where do I purchase LipSense?

As I mentioned in the beginning, SeneGence, the creator of LipSense, is a direct sales company. You will have to find a distributor selling the product to order. You can visit the SeneGence website and search for a distributor in your area or visit Good Morning, Lovely Cosmetics on Facebook and send me a message directly and I can help you find the right color for your first LipKit.

I look forward to hearing from you and happy makeup-ing!

Homemade Holiday: DIY Peppermint Lip Scrub

Running short on gift ideas, low on a budget, or is procrastination bringing your holiday spirit down? Try this sweet, little gift made from items that you more than likely have in your home already. This peppermint lip scrub is festive, tasty, great for anyone AND will show the person you give it to that you care about them and their skin. The sugar in this scrub acts as an exfoliant scraping away dead skin and the coconut oil moisturizes them leaving you with kissably soft lips. What a great gift for your significant other!

  • Small jar for storage
  • 5 drops of peppermint essential oil – therapeutic grade for ingestion
  • 15 peppermint candies
  • Sugar
  • Coconut Oil
  • Honey

Experiment with the quantity of sugar, coconut oil, and honey in order to get the right consistency for your preference and size of the container you are using. For example, if you want it to be a rougher scrub, use more sugar. Don’t add as much sugar if you have sensitive skin.

Mix, Mix, Mix!

Add all of your ingredients to a food processor and blend them until they are mixed together with small sized peppermint candy chunks sprinkled throughout it. The candy should have turned your scrub into a pretty, pale, pink color. Transfer your scrub into a jar, tie a ribbon around it, and you’re ready to wrap it up and gift it!

Holiday Party Makeup Look

  • Start off with Mugshot, a metallic, cooler, light brown, from the Naked 3 palette and apply it all over the lid.
  • Use Factory, a metallic bronze, from the Naked 3 palette and apply it in the crease and outer corner of the lid. Blend with Mugshot.
  • Take Darkside, a metallic, dark purple-gray, from the Naked 3 palette and apply it above the crease in the outer corner. Blend with Factory.
  • Switch to the Naked 2 palette and pat YDK, a metallic cool copper, on top of Mugshot on the lid. Blend with Factory.
  • Lastly, take Verve, a metallic, reflective, silver-white,  from the Naked 2 palette and use it to highlight the brown bone and inner corner of the eye.
  • Go back to Darkside from the Naked 3 palette and line your bottom lash line from the outer corner to 3/4 of the way in.
  • The last 1/4 line with Verve from the inner corner until it meets and blends with Darkside.

  • Tight line upper lash line with black eyeliner and lower lash line in the outer corner matching parallel with Darkside. Don’t draw it all the way to the inner corner – only 3/4 of the way.
  • Line upper lash line with black liquid liner.
  • And if you like to sparkle, go over it with silver glitter eyeliner. Make sure to wait for both to dry.

  • Use a bronzer on the lines of the cheeks, sides of the forehead, and sides of the jawline.
  • Use highlighter on the top of your cheek bones and dust it across the center of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, on your cupids bow and chin.
  • I’m also applying Mary Kay Cherry Blossom blush – my go to blush this season – on the apples of my cheeks and back against my cheek bone.

Breakdown of a Skincare Regimen

Based on age and needs, a skin care regimen will evolve over the course of one’s life. The skeleton of a skincare regimen remains the same generally, but the specific products and ingredients will probably change to fit your skin in each stage of life. Here is a breakdown of what a healthy skincare regimen looks like in the order of suggested application. When it comes to the order, the idea is to put what you want to be most effective on first and closest to skin.

  1. Cleanser: Cleansers are sort of like soap that is designed specifically for your face, which has more sensitive skin and a completely different PH balance than the rest of your body. After sleeping, your body has an excess of oils produced during the night that you need to remove. This gives your face a clean slate and helps you feel fresh for the upcoming day. Also, it’s good to know and keep in mind that steam and heat will open pores and cold will close pores. You want pores open during cleansing to remove dirt and then closed to minimize size and prevent dirt from getting in. Burst blood vessels can result over time from really hot water. Find a balance between the warm and cold water.
  2. Toner: Toners are step two of the cleansing process. They work deep to cleanse and minimize pores as well as remove any possible residue left behind after cleansing. Toner also work with the PH balance of your skin helping it to return to normal after using water of a completely different PH balance.
  3. Targeting Solutions and Serums: These come in all shapes and sizes for specific needs. They have ones for tone correcting, acne removal/prevention, lifting and anti-aging, and pore minimizers. The list goes on and on. You can use them on an occasion for a flair up or everyday for maximum effectiveness. If nothing else, I would recommend using a PH balanced SPF specifically for your face to protect against UV damage during the day if you’re going outside.
  4. Eye Cream: Eye creams are extra moisturizing to the fragile under eye area. This helps to prevent wrinkles. There are a lot of eye creams out on the market offer different things like an extra boost of wrinkle protection by adding retinol or a firming agent to prevent puffiness. Some of these products (including the serums and solutions above) could appear as if they have instant results, but the majority show results over the course of time using them.
  5.  Moisturizer: Regardless of your skin type, you need a moisturizer. Without a moisturizer, your skin could either over-produce oil in order to compensate or become extremely dry leading to acne, flaky, red and painful skin, or both. If you have extremely dry skin, you may find yourself in need of an intense moisturizing cream as well and if you have extremely oily skin, you may find you would like to use an oil mattifier in addition to moisturizer.

  1. Makeup Remover: The importance of removing your makeup before bed can not be expressed nearly enough. It can expose your skin to free radicals making your skin age faster, make you break out or experience dry skin, clog your eyelash follicles leading to styes and increase in lash breakage and fallout, and possibly an eye infection among other things.
  2. Cleanser: Nighttime cleansing removes all dirt and oils accumulated throughout the day.
  3. Toner: Along with cleansing comes step two.
  4.  Targeting Solutions and Serums: The more you use them, the more effective they will be. I would recommend finding a solution that will replenish antioxidants into your skin to help the skin’s renewal process at night.
  5. Eye Cream: Some eye creams are also soothing and feel really nice on the skin right before bed.
  6. Moisturizer: You may have lost moisture throughout the day from sweating, dehydration, etc. Restore!

Add 1-2x/Week into Regimen

Microdermabrasion: This comes after cleansing and before toning. This can be found in an expensive treatment or simply just exfoliating with a scrub. The granules loosen and remove dead skin. Cleansing first removes dirt so it doesn’t get in the pores when exfoliating and the toner will remove the residue of missed granules, cleanse the pores, and close them back up afterwards.

Masks: Masks are similar to solutions and treatments in the sense that they are usually targeting something. They are like a power boost for your skin. They can tighten the skin, shrink pores, moisturize, soften, and again the list goes on. Do before toning.

Makeup Inspired by Autumn

What You’ll Need:

  • a sage green eye shadow
  • a gold eye shadow
  • a dark plum eye shadow
  • a burgundy eye shadow
  • a blush with a coppery undertone
  • a warm brown with a pink undertone
  • black liquid liner
  • black mascara
  • brown eyeliner

Apply gold eye shadow all over your lids.

I’m using Urban Decay’s Half Baked eye shadow which can also be found in Naked 2.

Apply burgundy eye shadow in the creases and outer corners.

I’m using the burgundy color located in Column 8 Row 6 of the 88 Coastal Scents palette.

Apply plum eye shadow to the outer corners blending it in with the burgundy eye shadow.

I’m using the plum color located in Column 8 Row 7 of the 88 Coastal Scents palette.

I’m using Sparkling Sage by Clinique

Line water line and tight line upper lash line with brown eyeliner.

I’m using the Buxom liner in Come Over.

I love me a wing so if you do too then you can use black liquid liner to line your upper lash line and wing it out. If not, you can leave it or line your upper lash line with brown eyeliner for a more subtle look.

I’m using the Mary Kay Black Ultimate Mascara.

After you apply a sweep of copper toned blush and your lipstick, you are ready to go. I’m using the Mary Kay Sparkling Cider Blush and Mary Kay True Dimensions Sienne Brulee lipstick.

Tips for Longer Lasting Lipstick

What You’ll Need:

You can do all of these steps in order for extra long wear or just a couple to help protect the lasting power.

  1. Give your lips a layer of primer to give yourself a smooth surface to work from.
  2. Follow it up with a liquid concealer that will not dry the lips out, but give your lipstick something to hold onto while creating a blank, color-free canvas to bring out the vividness of the lipstick you’ve chosen.
  3. Begin applying lipstick using a lip brush. Using a lip brush will transfer the color to your lips without all of the excess product that can easily come off.
  4. Using a tissue, gently blot any extra product off that is on your lips.
  5. Holding the tissue over your lips, dust some translucent powder across the tissue to set the layer of lipstick you just applied.
  6. Continue to repeat steps 3-5 until you have the color build up you want.

Is Your Skin Ready for Winter?

S T E P  O N E

Prevent chapped lips by using any lip balm.

Common ingredients in lip balms such as petroleum jelly can actually create dry and flaky lips by coating lips in a protective film instead of actually hydrating them.

S T E P  T W O

You don’t need moisturizer if you have oily skin.

Regardless of your skin type, you need moisturizer especially during dry winter months. Oily skin simply means your skin is overcompensating.

S T E P  T H R E E

Your face will dry out the more you wash your face.

Your skin is constantly producing oils and is coming in contact with dirt and other external elements that will clog your pores if not cleansed. Clogged pores = blemishes.

S T E P  F O U R

Thick creams will hydrate your skin better.

Skin can look duller due to dead skin cells becoming trapped under heavy lipids.

So here’s your check list:

  1. A hydrating lip balm
  2. A moisturizer suited for your skin type
  3. A cleanser suited for your skin type
  4. A lightweight cream for extra hydration

Your skin will thank you for being ready by the time the cold winds blow in and the snowflakes fall. Is your skin ready for winter yet?

Pumpkin Spice Fall Makeup

Fall is my favorite season when it comes to makeup trends. What do I love most about it? The lip colors! It is more acceptable to wear dark, bold colors. I love my berry colors: magentas and deep purples. Of course there are no “rules”, but the cooler months just bring out the bold and the beautiful a little more richly than the bright, warmer months, don’t you think? I mean, everyone loves fall … and with fall comes pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks and Leaves candles from Bath and Body Works, two of my (and every other white girl’s) favorite things. So why not do a fall makeup look with a little pumpkin spice that has a touch of all my favorite things about fall?

pumpkin spice

What You’ll Need:

1. Rich Spice Gloss 2. Shy Blush 3. Gold Coast Eye Color 4. Rosegold Eye Color 5. Amber Blaze Eye Color 6. French Roast Eye Color 7. Truffle Eye Color 8. Rich Fig Cream Lipstick

pumpkin spice

Start off by taking Gold Coast (3) and highlighting your brow bones and inner corner of your eyes. This is such a beautiful color that has a pale orangey glow with tons of golden sparkles.

Paint your eyelid with Amber Blaze (5).

Place Rosegold (4) in the outer corner of your eyelid. Make sure to blend Rosegold and Amber Blaze together well.

Take French Roast (6) and put it in the crease making sure to blend it in with Rosegold.

Lastly, use Truffle (7) in the outer corner of the crease blending upward toward Gold Coast on your brow bone. If you need, use more of Gold Coast to blend the two together. Carry Truffle down to your bottom lash line and shadow line it with that.

To get my completed look, line your bottom waterline with a black eyeliner, line your upper lash line with a black liquid or gel liner, and coat upper and bottom lash line with black mascara.

Use Shy Blush (2) on the apples of your cheeks to give them rosy color with a golden sparkly shimmer. You can also use your favorite foundation for a flawless look and coverage as well as bronzer for contouring.

pumpkin spice

Start off by using Rich Fig (8), a deep magenta berry color, cream lipstick and top it off with Rich Spice gloss (1).

What did you think of this look? What is your favorite part about fall?
